Studio 117 is situated at Wimbledon Art Studios located on an industrial estate off Garratt Lane between Earlsfield and Tooting Broadway Stations. The art studios are one of the largest, single site studio complexes in the United Kingdom, comprising of two separate buildings split into the Red, Yellow and Blue Studios. The studios have helped to regenerate an otherwise neglected part of the London borough of Wandsworth.
The Red Studios were established in 1993 within a working paper warehouse and initially opened with six artists renting studio space alongside the paper business. Today, the warehouse spans three floors providing 173 individual studio spaces and a purpose built artist’s Common Room and Kitchen.
Large sky light windows run the entire length of the second floor roof, providing a constant source of reliable natural light throughout the day while thirteen of the first and ground floor studio spaces have an entire wall of natural light. This has been achieved by replacing the previous brick façade with a high-tech polycarbonate, allowing maximum light as well as privacy.
The Blue Studios were purposely built in 2007 specifically as art studios. It spans four floors, providing 54 studio spaces and shared kitchenette facilities. With each studio having it’s own natural light, these offer the very best in creative studio space.
Artists and businesses at the studios produce a variety of work across every discipline including painting, ceramics, weaving, photography, furniture-making, textile design and sculpture.
